Ninth Bar / Methodology

How we review

Every product on Ninth Bar goes through a consistent research and curation process. Here is how we assess espresso machines and coffee grinders before publishing a review.

  1. Research methodology

We do not conduct lab testing, and we never claim to. Our reviews are based on extensive research into verified UK owner reports, community testing data from r/espresso, Home-Barista, and specialist forums, manufacturer documentation, and long-term reliability patterns reported across hundreds of real-world users. This gives a broader picture than any single tester could provide.

  2. Community sources

We draw on real-world reports from the home barista community: forums, Reddit, specialist groups, and verified buyer reviews. We look for patterns across multiple users (long-term reliability, edge-case failures, regional quirks) rather than relying on any single account. Where community experience is mixed or contested, we say so. Every review lists its sources, and every review names what is actually bad about the product.

  3. Specification review

We record key technical specifications (boiler type, heat-up time, pump pressure, burr size) from manufacturer documentation and verified retailer listings. These specs power our side-by-side comparison pages.

  4. Ongoing updates

Reviews are not static. We revisit editorial content as owner reports accumulate and the market changes, and each review shows when it was published and last updated. If you spot an error, email us via the About page and we will check the claim against its sources and correct it.
